WHO WE ARE

Rosebank Speedway, proudly operated by the Auckland Speedway Riders Club (ASRC), is New Zealand’s longest-running motorcycle speedway venue and the only dedicated motorcycle speedway track in the North Island. Established in 1934 and incorporated in 1961, ASRC has been at the heart of grassroots motorsport in Auckland for more than 90 years.

Our facility at Rosebank Domain in Avondale is unique: it combines a purpose-built dirt oval speedway with a full tarmac track, creating one of the most versatile two-wheel motorsport venues in the country. This dual-surface setup allows us to host a wide variety of racing disciplines and training events, ensuring opportunities for riders of all ages and abilities.

Classes we regularly feature include:

• Solo Speedway Bikes – from juniors through to premier senior riders

• Sidecars – thrilling two-person teams competing Wheel-to-Wheel

• Flat Track / Dirt Track – motorcycles adapted for the oval

• Junior Speedway (5–16 years) – our pathway for youth development

• Tarmac Training & Events – including Bucket Bikes, MiniGP Academy, and dry-hire motorcycle groups under MNZ permits

Beyond racing, Rosebank is a community-driven, volunteer-run venue. Every season we rely on thousands of volunteer hours to maintain and improve our track, clubrooms, and facilities. Riders and families travel from across New Zealand to compete here, and Rosebank has produced multiple national and international champions across different codes of motorsport.

With our new 10-year lease with Auckland Council and the upcoming expansion of our operations across the full domain, Rosebank Speedway is entering an exciting new era. We remain committed to delivering safe, affordable, and family-friendly motorsport while developing the next generation of riders.

MOTORSPORT HISTORY AT ROSEBANK DOMAIN

Rosebank Domain has been home to motorcycle and kart racing for almost a century, making it one of New Zealand’s longest-running motorsport venues.

Early Years (1930s–1950s)

Motorcycle racing began here in the early 1930s on a rough grass track at the tip of the Rosebank Peninsula. The Ixion Motorcycle Club first controlled the track before merging with the Auckland Motorcycle Club in 1935, giving the club a permanent base in Avondale. Night meetings and weekend events continued through the 1940s and early 1950s, attracting riders from across Auckland until construction of the motorway temporarily closed the site.

Early Power Sports Era (1960s–1980s)

By the early 1960s, Auckland City Council saw the isolated Rosebank site as ideal for 'noisy sports' such as go-karts and motorcycles. The Auckland Power Sports Association was formed, and with help from local businesses and volunteers, a sealed kart track was built. The new circuit opened on 31 May 1964, officially launched by Mayor Dove-Myer Robinson—himself a former motorcycle enthusiast. Rosebank quickly became a hub for motorcycle racing, karting and other power sports, with speeds reaching up to 90 mph on the 30-foot-wide track.

Power Sports Era (1980s-2020's)

Through the 1970s,1980s, 1990's, 2000's and early 2020's Rosebank Domain remained one of Auckland’s key venues for grassroots motorsport. Over time, Auckland Speedway Riders Club (ASRC) and Auckland Kart Club became the main tenants.

Current Power Sports Era (late 2020's)

Today, under the stewardship of ASRC and Power Sports Inc, the Domain continues to evolve as a multi-discipline motorsport facility, supporting youth development, community events, and the next generation of riders and drivers. The Auckland Kart Club has relocated to its new home at Colin Dale Park at the end of 2025, leaving ASRC as the primary long-term tenant.

To ensure fair and inclusive use of the venue, Power Sports Inc has invited other motorcycle and community groups to share the Domain in conjunction with ASRC — including the Bucket Bike Club and the Mini GP Academy — helping strengthen collaboration and maintain Rosebank as a leading community motorsport and community venue.
